Maine Winter Olympics

Sure, it was exciting to watch world class athletes compete in the Winter Olympics in Italy last month, but after two weeks of seeing spinning ice dancers, flipping snowboarders, super fast skiers, skaters, bobsleds, skeletons and (our favorite) those calculating curlers, I thought to myself, “How are these skills actually helpful dealing with winter weather?

They’re not. But winter sports are fun and we have plenty here in Maine.

Here are a few suggestions for new Olympic sports that better reflect the realities of the winter in Maine: Downhill Speed Deck Shoveling, Synchronized Plowing, and dangerous Sprints in and out of the House or Barn.

So as the sun sets on the beautiful hamlet of Sweden, Maine, we celebrate with our fellow winter hardened neighbors!
