Post 21: New Views

This Thanksgiving week was a short one, but not without some progress. The carpenters built and raised a few walls on the first floor of the ell, giving us a three dimensional feel for the size of the rooms to come. And the window holes framed our future views from the living room.

An early snowfall graced the land, brightening our Thanksgiving Day. We couldn’t resist stopping by the farm to see how the Red House looked sitting above a field of white.

Nestled under a protective cover, we found a load of antique bricks salvaged from the old basement. These will be used to line one of the new basement walls.

With our crews on holiday, we resumed work on the edge of the first field, removing yet more bittersweet and cutting down poplar saplings. Our work days are shorter now. We set down our tools as the sun sets or the moon rises.

We are truly grateful for the opportunity to save this beloved old house and move it away from the road to a central location that affords such stunning views of the natural beauty that surrounds it.

Next week, when the farmhouse is lowered, we look forward to seeing the old meet the new.
