It’s been almost a year since we cleared out the old farmhouse in preparation for this renovation project. Time to pause and take a look at the big picture, see how far we have come, and acknowledge the teamwork that has gotten us this far. Thanks to Josh and Nick for these stunning aerial shots taken from atop the Genie.
This week electricians had the run of the place, spooling wires, drilling through studs, and marking spots for outlets, switches and lighting fixtures. We spent a long morning finalizing decisions about lighting and came away thinking about how much has changed since Samuel and Esther Nevers built the Red House. They would have lit the rooms by hearth fire, oil lamp and/or candlelight. We will enjoy dimmable LED lights controlled by an app we can program for different moods. Thanks to Doug and Dwayne of Walker Electrics for getting us up to date.
The carpenters worked outside, trimming windows, adding strapping and preparing to build on the back deck. We caught them on lunch break on a sunny day, enjoying each others’ company.
Not all the work takes place on site. Back in the office Crowell Construction owner Gary Crowell and his assistant Bonnie, keep track of the numbers. We are relying on them to take care of business while we take a break to travel back to Europe and see our daughters. We’ll look forward to seeing the team’s progress on exterior siding, porches and interior insulation upon our return.
