This week contractors pulled out all the stops, under pressure to finish their work before Thursday when a moving crew from Country Pickers arrived with furniture and possessions we’ve been storing since 2020. Our lovely living room is now crowded with boxes!
Painters finished their work indoors and out.
Carpenters framed the basement windows in repurposed barn board to match the wall, and will return next week to put in a dropped ceiling.
We have a new set of steps to access the deck from the side of the house.
Both the front and back yards are level and mostly covered with loam.
Stone walls have been rebuilt and granite slabs placed like curbing around the driveway.
Piles of rock and dirt have shrunk or disappeared.
And we now have a retaining pond that is filling with water.
It’s been amazing to watch the landscape change shape before our eyes. While not everything is complete (we had a wallpaper setback) and we’ll need a little time to place furniture and unpack boxes, we are not having trouble adjusting to life in the Red House. The renovation was worth the effort and the time and the money we put into it. And we are grateful for those who made our vision a reality.
