This week we witnessed another dramatic change in the landscape around the Red House. On Tuesday morning, TJ Bergquist arrived with two men, a big truck and a giant hose loaded with a grass seed and all that it needs to grow. They sprayed the front, side, and back yard and along the field and the verges of the driveway with the sticky green mixture.
We look forward to seeing the seeds germinate in a few days or, if it too late in the season, next spring.
Progress continued in the basement. The dropped ceiling is almost complete and we moved a couple of bookcases there. As soon as we get heat connected down there, we’ll unpack our boxes of books.
A house is a structure. This blog has tracked the transformation an early American farmhouse into what can truly be called a modern farmhouse. Now that the renovation and new construction is nearing completion, Nils and I are working to convert the house into a home.
Nothing makes a place feel more homey, than having friends and family in our new/old house where we can share meals, conversation and laughter, play games and make memories.

It feels like a spanking new old farmhouse HOME. It has a marvelous ambiance throughout.
Great pix! That hydroseeding is very cool. When will it sprout?
Probably next spring as it has been too cool at night for the seeds to germinate.
Congratulations to you on this huge endeavor nearing its end point! (I am tempted to say “temporary endpoint” as I am sure there will be plenty of projects large and small around the place in the future ).
