After spending countless hours cutting back saplings, bittersweet and other invaders from the edge of the forest to reveal old stone walls built by former residents of the Red House, we discovered there is an easier and much quicker way to accomplish the same goal. It’s called forest mulching. We hired a man and a machine to mow down and shred saplings that had encroached 14 feet from the stone wall into our second field. In about three hours he did what would have taken us three years to do by hand.
This week we saw exterior slatting completed under the deck, the front door get its final coats of paint and poly, and watched the water level of the pond rise.
There was also some progress on the interior. Some Red oak MinWax went a long way to reviving two of the original old doors. We swapped out a single for a double bed in the brass bedroom and we met with Mike from Custom Window Decorating who gave us ideas for adding blinds and drapes.
Then on Friday afternoon we were treated to a much needed rain squall and this vivid rainbow.

Coming together! The forest mulching was so interesting to watch.
I know what Nils wants for Xmas! I didn’t know a forest mulcher (my spell checker wants this to be a forest muncher and so do I) was a thing.
Can’t wait to visit in two weeks and see all that has happened since our last visit in the summer.
This whole project is beautiful! I love the red farm house and surrounding property.
