Post 41: Windows on the World

As anyone who has built a house knows, the window install is a great milestone in the construction process. This milestone at the Red House was made more dramatic for having to be completed in the few fair days preceding yet another late season snowstorm.

It was an exciting week! The HVAC team from Gagnon finished installing the ductwork and hardware for our geothermal heating and cooling system and the carpentry crew hustled to cut new openings, frame and install over 50 Marvin windows in both the old farmhouse and the new ell. This first video was taken Monday, the first time we saw the view from the living room. The second one was taken on Friday. In between, Sweden received 18 inches of snow and lost power. But our workers powered through.

Nils and I also took advantage of the clear springlike weather at the beginning of the week, hauling out ladders and pruning shears to cut back the shaggy privet hedge along the road. Rosie, our builder’s yellow lab, seems to appreciate this schizophrenic time of year better than the rest of us; she split her time between playing in the snow and dozing in the sun.
